Alien Landscape

This alien podlings are actually the roots of a mangrove tree. The tree thrives in salt water because, unlike other trees, it deposits the accumulated salt in its leaves. When there is too much salt, the leaves drop off. Because the salt interferes with photosynthesis, the tree must absorb oxygen through its roots.
