Human Weapon
I’m watching Human Weapon on the History Channel. I knew this would be a mostly-fluff series, since it’s a brief overview of a new martial art for each episode. I didn’t think these guys would be talking out of their asses.
“In other martial arts, you train with a weapon and learn techniques specific to that weapon that can’t be applied when you lose it. In Escrima, every technique can be applied with a stick, a knife, or empty-handed.”
Bullshit. He’s right about Escrima, but other arts use the same approach. In Aikido, every move with with a staff or sword had a variation for empty-handed application. For the most part, the motions were exactly the same. How can someone who’s supposed to be an expert make such a broad and blatantly wrong statement?
I’m still watching the show because I want to see the native practitioners. I’ve had it with the voice-over and commentary from the two hosts, though.
In other news, I’m leaving in the morning for South Carolina. We’ll be spending a few days in Savannah before we head up to Greenville. Back next Sunday or Monday. See you then!
