Birthday update

Published by Walker at 2:11 pm under Movies & TV, Personal

Much fun was had for my birthday this year. It began a day early, on Thursday night. Had some folks over for a last-minute movie showing. I hadn’t really planned to do anything Thursday night because I knew I’d be helping Jay move, but it worked out that several friends joined me for chocolate cake and Musa the Warrior. Subtitles were mostly ignored, much heckling was involved, and fun was had by all.

Friday night was a hell of a lot of fun. Charlie took me to see Sin City. I’ll gush about the movie at some other time. Suffice to say that it rocked mightily, and it may well be the best movie I’ve ever seen. No, really. Go see it. You must. I command you.

After such a kick-ass movie, Charlie could hardly go home as he’d intended. That would be sacrilege. We went to Indie Barbs. Ran into lots of people, most notably Delaney. (I say most notably because she nearly clotheslined Charlie when saying hello, which is certainly notable, and then she provided me with a great deal of alcohol throughout the evening. And there was much rejoicing.) Daniel and his friend Erica were there representing South Florida, which was cool. Ran into James. Went to Sophie and Dave’s place after clubbing for a few late-night dumplings.

Saturday was fun but not what I’d planned. I took the night off of work, and the plan was to go see Sin City again with Daniel and Erica. Someone didn’t call me, but that’s for the best. Just had to throw out the obligatory guilt trip. In the afternoon Justice called to ask if I’d help with the kung fu demo reel, which I was glad to do. We got started later than expected, but in the end it ran about as long as I’d assumed it would. Filming something will never take “just an hour or so.” It’s a universal rule. It was fun hanging out with Stacie, Justice, and Patty.

I intended to hit Indie Bar again Saturday night, but by the time we finished filming both Patty and I were in need of food. We went to Chili’s, left the restaurant around midnight. Patty was pooped, so I took her home. We watched the previously-filmed demo footage. By the time I left Patty’s place, there wasn’t much point in going to IB. I’d have gotten there about an hour before closing time.
