Oh how the mighty have fallen

Published by Walker under Photos, Personal

Not that I’m going around calling myself “The Mighty” or anything, but I did fall. Does that count? Charlie helped me out with a very cool photo shoot this past Thursday. We got together with an Orlando fetish model, Whitney Morgan. Photos will be coming soon, but they may be the last photos I take for a while. I was climbing on some abandoned factory equipment when one of the supports gave way. I took a tumble, fortunately with few adverse effects. I wish I could say the same about my camera. I don’t know yet if it can be fixed, but smacking lens-down on concrete and bouncing into water can’t be good. At least the memory card was undamaged, so all of the photos survived. Here’s hoping the camera makes it too.

I’m in a strange mood today. First of all, I’m watching Indian music videos. The audio is horrible, of course. I don’t know why the video is such high quality while the audio always sounds tinny, but I catch these often enough to know that’s typical.

In a roundabout sort of way these videos remind me of Sharmilla, a friend from college. She tried to convince me that I should learn Hindi. Sharmilla and her brother Sunil were here on student visas from Tanzania, and it was always interesting to talk to them. I introduced Sharmilla to classic horror films. We rented Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Wolfman one night. I don’t think she enjoyed the movies. She understood them, but if you don’t grow up with those myths then I suppose the films wouldn’t have much effect. Regardless, we laughed a lot as we talked about them. I remember somehow hitting the topic of American Indians, and she didn’t understand why they were called Native Americans. She thought they were originally from India.

“Shmeng is not a Gothic site”

Published by Walker under Personal

I couldn’t come up with a subject line for today, so I did a Google search for ‘Wednesday.” It returned a bunch of newspapers and (oddly enough) Republican dogma. I did a search for “+odd +Wednesday” and got more Republican dogma. What’s up with that? As a last resort and entirely on a whim, I searched for “+gothic +Wednesday +odd” and got, as the #5 listing, Shmeng.

What is Shmeng, you ask? Not a f*cking clue. It has some pretty pictures, though. Come on. Are you going to tell me you could possibly pass up that name?

Shmeng. Shmeng, shmeng, shmeng. I think that’s my new favorite word.

So today has been fun. I know it’s hard to believe that someone as glamorous and insanely cool as myself would have to stoop so low as to do actual yard work, but believe it. i stooped. I stooped at noon, in fact, and nearly gave myself heat stroke in the process. (Don’t ask. It’s an idiotic story. Those who know me well can easily guess who’s at the root of it.)

I still don’t have a camera. Mind you, I’m fully aware that I won’t have a camera for at least a month. I know and accept that fact, and when I *did* have a working camera I’d really only shoot about once a week. Serious photo shoots averaged once a month. Everything else was just wandering around town and entertaining myself. (No, not “entertaining myself.” Get your minds out of the gutter. There’s only room for one down here, and I’m it.)

At any rate, the fact that I don’t have a camera and can’t go out shooting, even if I have nothing in particular to shoot right now, is really bothering me. Damn.
