Rocket Science X

Published by Walker under Rocket Science Chronicles

“Member has tool but no nut remover.”

That’s entirely too much innuendo for one sentence. (hehe)

Rocket Science again

Published by Walker under Rocket Science Chronicles

Here’s a gem:
“Member is completely dead. Please expedite service.”

Sorry, I think it’s a little late for a tow truck to do any good.

Walker v29.0

Published by Walker under Personal

A couple of people have made “29 and holding” jokes. I’m not really concerned about hitting 30 next year, but I find the idea of a delaying tactic amusing. As I commented to my friend John (in response to his response to a previous journal entry), my mother said that next year I’ll be celebrating the first anniversary of my 29th birthday. Her personal preference was to revert a bit. She’s 21 with lots of practice.

Got me to thinking, which is never a good idea. Nothing good will come of this.

So I’m thinking that next year I’ll call myself Walker v29.01. That leaves me a good 99 years before I have to move up to 30, and I don’t really expect to make it to Walker v29.99 anyway. I’m already half-broken. If I’m still breathing by Walker v29.5, I’m likely to be missing bits.

Continuing that thought and taking a cue from Apple, I can come up with a cool nickname for each annual revision. Walker v29.0 (me, now) will come to be called “Classic.” Next year I’ll call myself something catchy. Maybe I’ll go with precious stones. Walker v29.01 will be Topaz, followed by Walker v29.02: Turquoise.

Yes, it is now my calling in life to make people spell turquoise. Evil. Eeeeevil. *grin* Just wait ’til I hit Carnelian. People won’t know what it is OR how to spell it.

[edit: corrected spelling of Carnelian. That’s what I get for ranting on the verge of unconsciousness.]

Rocket Science

Published by Walker under Rocket Science Chronicles

At work I constantly have to deal with misspellings. Most are easy to guess. They may be aggravating, but they don’t really cause problems. Some are entirely too funny to forget, which is why I intend to immortalize the best of them here. (As if my journal will be immortal. Arrogant? Not at all.)

So, who here has been to Battin Roughe, Louisanna? And, of course, Louisiana was abbreviated as LO elsewhere within the same call record. There is no LO. It’s a drop-down list. She had to type that in to get it wrong.

Oh, and on a different note, I got a request to tow a vehicle, and the only notes in the case said, “Member will be under drivers side floor mat.” I kid you not.

Birthday update

Published by Walker under Movies & TV, Personal

Much fun was had for my birthday this year. It began a day early, on Thursday night. Had some folks over for a last-minute movie showing. I hadn’t really planned to do anything Thursday night because I knew I’d be helping Jay move, but it worked out that several friends joined me for chocolate cake and Musa the Warrior. Subtitles were mostly ignored, much heckling was involved, and fun was had by all.

Friday night was a hell of a lot of fun. Charlie took me to see Sin City. I’ll gush about the movie at some other time. Suffice to say that it rocked mightily, and it may well be the best movie I’ve ever seen. No, really. Go see it. You must. I command you.

After such a kick-ass movie, Charlie could hardly go home as he’d intended. That would be sacrilege. We went to Indie Barbs. Ran into lots of people, most notably Delaney. (I say most notably because she nearly clotheslined Charlie when saying hello, which is certainly notable, and then she provided me with a great deal of alcohol throughout the evening. And there was much rejoicing.) Daniel and his friend Erica were there representing South Florida, which was cool. Ran into James. Went to Sophie and Dave’s place after clubbing for a few late-night dumplings.

Saturday was fun but not what I’d planned. I took the night off of work, and the plan was to go see Sin City again with Daniel and Erica. Someone didn’t call me, but that’s for the best. Just had to throw out the obligatory guilt trip. In the afternoon Justice called to ask if I’d help with the kung fu demo reel, which I was glad to do. We got started later than expected, but in the end it ran about as long as I’d assumed it would. Filming something will never take “just an hour or so.” It’s a universal rule. It was fun hanging out with Stacie, Justice, and Patty.

I intended to hit Indie Bar again Saturday night, but by the time we finished filming both Patty and I were in need of food. We went to Chili’s, left the restaurant around midnight. Patty was pooped, so I took her home. We watched the previously-filmed demo footage. By the time I left Patty’s place, there wasn’t much point in going to IB. I’d have gotten there about an hour before closing time.
